We recently chatted with MessageGears CEO Roger Barnette about the rapidly approaching conference, the email world in general and, of course, our shared hometown pride for the city of Atlanta.

 

What do you think makes MessageGears a great match with EiQ?

We love making big enterprises successful in personalizing email at scale. Our mission is to turn our clients into email heroes.

From a career standpoint, how did you end up in email?

I love building businesses and believe in the power of personalized email. I was fortunate enough to become CEO of MessageGears in late 2016. Before MessageGears, I worked at a technology company focused on search, display and social.

What do you get excited about in the email world?

In an era of fragmented communication and diminishing attention spans, email is the constant way to identify and stay in touch with your customers and prospects. Even a majority of Millenials and Gen Z consistently rank email as the preferred way for brands to stay in touch with them. I think this is a good indication that email will continue to be a top tool for communicating with customers for a long, long time.

What advice do you have for newcomers to the email industry?

Dig in. Network. Learn. It is a tight-knit community that is welcoming to newcomers who embrace it.

Who is a brand that you think does a great job with their email program? What do you like about their email program?

Chick-Fil-A is amazing in terms of their personalization and relevance. Their emails get me back into their app and into their stores. And they’re based here in Atlanta!
